20 Quotes That Show What True Love Is All About

love quotes

It’s no surprise that I love good quotes, and there’s no better topic for quotes than love. February is the month of love, and with it brings the opportunity to recognize the different kinds of love in our lives. While we all too often only think of romantic love, the platonic love between you and your best friend or familial love from your parents can be just as strong.

True love doesn’t have to only refer to romance. The following quotes covers all different kinds of love, but they all circle around the same topic – true love at its very core.

“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness – and call it love – true love.” – Robert Fulghum

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” – “When Harry Met Sally,” Nora Ephron

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” – A. A. Milne

“The language of friendship is not words but meanings.” – Henry David Thoreau

“Be slow to fall into friendship; but when thou art in, continue firm and constant.” – Socrates

“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.” – Agatha Christie

“I sustain myself with the love of family.” – Maya Angelou

“The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.” – Audrey Hepburn

“Like a river flows surely to the sea/Darling so it goes/Some things are meant to be/Take my hand, take my whole life too/For I can’t help falling in love with you.” – Elvis Presley

“I would rather spend one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone.” – “Lord of The Rings,” J.R.R. Tolkien

“Well I never had a place that I could call my very own/That’s all right, my love, ’cause you’re my home.” – Billy Joel

“We are most alive when we’re in love.” – John Updike

“Other things may change us, but we start and end with family.” – Anthony Brandt

“That’s what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you’re not so lovable.” – Deb Caletti

“Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.” – Muhammad Ali

“Growing apart doesn’t change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled. I’m glad for that.” – Ally Condie

“Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backward.” – E.E. Cummings

“There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

“Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” – Aristotle

While Valentine’s Day may be marketed for its chocolates and jewelry, the sentiment of it is worth celebrating — recognizing your loved ones. You don’t have to be in a committed relationship to celebrate this. Even if you’re flying solo this year, you can give thanks to your close friends or family for the love they show you.

First of all, your email as usual surprises me bc my niece’s name is Kayla. And this time my brain saw ” 20 Quotes of Love” by Kayla (who is 14 yrs old). Needless to say, I was not pleased. Haha. I like this post, esp F. Scott Fitzgerald’s quote, so true.

    Thanks for sharing, Kayla M!

Hey Beth! That’s too funny! I’ve been confused with a lot of Kayla’s in my life (there were five of us in my graduating class in high school), but this might be the first time I’ve been confused with someone so much younger than me. =P Thanks for continuing to be a reader and supporter of Productivity Theory. =)

Have to say I’m a big quote fan too. I especially love the ones from Anthony Brandt and Aristotle (always a favourite). Absolute zingers both of them.

Hey Micah! Thanks for reading! I think my favorite from this list is Robert Fulghum’s quote. It probably speaks the most to my personal relationship with my husband (hence, I had to include it first lol). Hope your Valentine’s Day was special and thanks for sharing your thoughts on my site!
